3DMAX Faces $2 Million Debt After Failed Acquisition

The French esports organization 3DMAX is facing approximately $2 million in debt following the collapse of a planned acquisition by YouTuber Cyril "CYRILmp4" Soudant. The deal, which fell through around August 20, has left the Counter-Strike 2 team's players and staff as the primary creditors, exacerbating an already dire financial situation for the organization.

3DMAX's financial troubles have roots in a significant fraud incident earlier this year, where nearly $1 million in revenues, including sponsorship funds, were misappropriated. Stéphane Pons, who became the general manager and CEO, revealed the fraud after taking over the role. This incident has contributed to the organization's total liabilities, now estimated between €1.5 million and €2 million, or roughly $1.75 million to $2 million.

The failed acquisition by CYRILmp4 is not the first setback for 3DMAX. Prior to this, the organization had engaged in discussions with Spanish esports team Team Heretics and other entities like ENVY, Luminosity, and TSM, but none of these negotiations resulted in a successful transaction. Despite its competitive history in Counter-Strike, including multiple appearances at the Major Legends Stage, the organization now faces a precarious financial future. Without a new owner or significant funding, 3DMAX's ability to meet its financial obligations remains uncertain.
