Gal Gadot Supported the Use of AI in Filmmaking

• Gal Gadot said the film industry will have to adapt to artificial intelligence.

Actress Gal Gadot backed the use of artificial intelligence in filmmaking, despite her own concerns about the technology. She spoke about it on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, commenting on work on a new bitcoin film.

According to Gadot, it is no longer possible to ignore AI’s development. She compared what is happening to “a train that has already left the station,” noting that people in the industry will either have to learn to work with the new technology or be left out of the market.

“You either work with it, or you’re completely out of the game,” the actress said.

At the same time, Gadot stressed that she is not in favor of uncontrolled AI use. In the film Bitcoin, the technology was used to create sets and lighting, while the acting, she said, remained entirely human. 

She separately insisted that AI not be used to alter or reproduce her performance.

Negotiating the relevant terms took about six months. Gadot called it the longest contract of her career. Her lawyers tried to anticipate different AI-use scenarios and legally limit how the technology could work with the actress’s likeness.

According to Gadot, the issue drew the attention of the SAG actors’ union. Its representatives reached out to her lawyers for recommendations they could use when updating contractual protections for other actors.

In this way, the actress’s position is not about rejecting AI, but about drawing clear lines around where it can be used. In her view, the technology can serve as a production tool while actors retain control over their appearance and performance.

What Is Known About the Film

This refers to the thriller Bitcoin, previously known as Bitcoin: Killing Satoshi. Its budget is estimated at $70 million, and it is directed by Doug Liman, known for The Bourne Identity. 

Alongside Gadot, the film also stars Casey Affleck, Pete Davidson, and Isla Fisher. At the center of the plot is the search for the identity of bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto.

The film’s events unfold across roughly 200 locations worldwide, but the cast did not actually travel for on-location shoots. Most of the footage was shot indoors in a former car dealership with gray screens, while the sets and lighting were created after filming using AI, Decrypt noted. 

Producer Ryan Kavanaugh claims that traditional production of a project like this could have cost more than $300 million, while the chosen approach cut expenses by more than $200 million.
