Strive Acquires 1,375 Bitcoin Amid Strategy's Share Buyback Program

Strive, a company listed on NASDAQ under the ticker ASST, purchased 1,375 Bitcoin for approximately $109 million between August 31 and September 4, 2026. This acquisition increased Strive's total Bitcoin holdings to 24,531 BTC. In contrast, Strategy, another NASDAQ-listed company trading under the ticker MSTR, did not acquire any Bitcoin during the same period and instead allocated $176.3 million to repurchase its own preferred stock, known as STRC.

Strive's funding strategy relies heavily on its floating-rate preferred stock, SATA, which trades near its $100 par value. This funding model has allowed Strive to continue its Bitcoin purchases, with 70% of the capital raised last week coming from SATA. The preferred shares offer a daily cash dividend at an annualized rate of 13%, which CEO Matt Cole highlighted as a unique feature in the U.S. market.

On the other hand, Strategy's board has authorized a $2 billion repurchase program for its preferred stock, which is designed to buy back shares when they trade below par value. This strategy aims to reduce future dividend obligations. As of September 7, 2026, Strategy held approximately 845,050 BTC, with a cost basis of $63.73 billion, while its shares have been trading below the $100 mark, prompting the buyback initiative.

The differing strategies of Strive and Strategy illustrate contrasting approaches to capital management in the cryptocurrency space. Strive's ability to raise funds through SATA has enabled it to continue acquiring Bitcoin, while Strategy's focus on share buybacks reflects a more cautious approach to managing its preferred stock obligations. As both companies navigate the volatile cryptocurrency market, their funding strategies will likely continue to shape their respective positions in Bitcoin holdings.
