Synopsys Reports Strong Q3 2026 Earnings, Raises Full-Year Guidance Amid AI Demand

Synopsys has announced impressive financial results for its fiscal Q3 2026, reporting revenue of $2.477 billion, a 42% increase from $1.740 billion in the same quarter last year. The company's non-GAAP earnings per share reached $3.91, surpassing analyst expectations. Despite these strong figures, shares fell approximately 4-6% in after-hours trading following the announcement.

The revenue breakdown reveals that the Design Automation segment, which includes the company's electronic design automation tools, generated about $2.003 billion, accounting for 81% of total revenue. The Design IP segment, which licenses reusable chip components, contributed $473.8 million, or 19% of the total. GAAP net income for the quarter was reported at $545.8 million, translating to diluted earnings per share of $2.84, while non-GAAP net income stood at $752.5 million.

In light of these results, Synopsys has raised its full-year revenue guidance to a midpoint of $9.715 billion and increased its non-GAAP EPS guidance to $15.07. CEO Sassine Ghazi attributed the growth to the rising demand for AI, which is driving the need for more complex chip designs. He noted that AI's influence is fundamentally changing the landscape of chip design, requiring more specialized architectures and verification processes.

Additionally, Synopsys' acquisition of Ansys in July 2025 is expected to enhance its offerings by integrating EDA tools with physics-based simulation, allowing for a more comprehensive approach to chip design from initial concept to manufacturing verification. The company anticipates double-digit growth in the broader electronic design automation sector as it continues to adapt to the evolving demands of AI infrastructure.
