Alibaba to sell gaming business Lingxi Games for at least $1.5 billion, accelerating AI transformation

PANews reported on August 18, citing Bloomberg, that Alibaba has reached an agreement to sell its gaming business Lingxi Games to Asian private equity firm Trustar Capital, in a deal valued at at least $1.5 billion. Lingxi Games CEO Zhou Bingshu said in an internal memo that the move is intended to allow Alibaba to better focus on its strategic priorities.

Alibaba is accelerating its transformation toward an AI and cloud computing strategy, targeting AI revenue of $100 billion within five years. This month, Alibaba released its largest AI model to date, claiming its performance is comparable to Anthropic. This sale is the latest move by Alibaba to divest non-core assets and focus on its AI strategy.
