Bank of America Forecasts $2.2 Trillion Data Center Market by 2030

Bank of America’s Global Research team has projected that the total data center systems market will reach $2.2 trillion by 2030, primarily driven by the expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure. This estimate, led by semiconductor analyst Vivek Arya, marks a significant increase from previous projections, with AI data center systems alone expected to account for approximately $1.7 trillion of the total market.

The analysis highlights a notable resurgence in the server CPU market, which is now anticipated to exceed $210 billion by 2030, up from earlier estimates of $170 billion. This growth is attributed to the rise of agentic AI applications, which require more CPU resources compared to traditional GPU-based workloads. Currently, server CPUs represent about 10% of the projected total market, an increase from 7% in earlier forecasts.

The driving force behind these projections is the hyperscaler companies, including Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Meta, which are expected to collectively spend over $700 billion on capital expenditures in 2026, reflecting a 75% year-over-year increase. Bank of America has financed over 5 gigawatts of global data center projects in the past 18 months, including a $16 billion data center campus in Michigan designed for Oracle and OpenAI. The $2.2 trillion figure encompasses a wide range of data center components, including servers, accelerators, memory, and networking equipment, with AI-specific components anticipated to dominate the market.
