Symbiosis Bitcoin Bridge Suspends BTC Routing Following Security Incident
The cross-chain liquidity protocol Symbiosis has announced a security incident affecting its Bitcoin bridge. The attack occurred on September 11, 2026, at 04:28 UTC, when attackers exploited a vulnerability in the system. As a result, the BTC routing has been suspended, although other routes remain operational, including those for EVM chains, TRON, and TON.
In response to the attack, the Symbiosis team has isolated the affected Bitcoin bridge from its other systems. They have successfully recovered approximately 15 BTC, which is now stored in a multi-signature wallet controlled by the team. To incentivize the return of the remaining funds, Symbiosis has offered a white hat bounty of 20% of the stolen amount, valid until September 13, 2026. After this date, a similar reward will be available for informants who can assist in the recovery process.
The final assessment of losses is still underway, and Symbiosis plans to release confirmation data in the near future. The team is also reaching out to affected liquidity providers individually and is working on a compensation framework. Meanwhile, the relay group continues to operate, ensuring the overall security of the network.
