Blockstream Refuses Ransom Demand After 85% of Stolen Liquid BTC Is ReturnedBlockstream said it will not pay a ransom to recover bitcoin stolen from the Liquid Network, arguing that taking assets without authorization and withholding their return constitutes theft rather than white-hat activity. The attacker had previously returned about 3,400 BTC, or roughly 85% of the stolen funds, while around 598.5 BTC remains outstanding.Blockstream said it will pursue lawful recovery efforts with law enforcement, exchanges and forensic specialists if the remaining funds are not returned. SlowMist founder Cos said the company’s hardline response was “puzzling,” while noting there may be undisclosed communications between the two sides.
