HashKey Becomes the First Asian Digital Asset Firm Inside…

HashKey Group joined the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation's Digital Assets Advisory Services Industry Working Group on 2 September, becoming the first Asian digital asset service provider admitted to the body. The admission comes as DTCC prepares to launch standardised tokenization services in October 2026.

DTCC's $114 Trillion Infrastructure Opens to Tokenization

DTCC's Depository Trust Company (DTC) safeguards over $114 trillion in assets as of 2025 and processes the clearing and settlement for virtually all US equities and fixed-income transactions. The working group advises DTCC on how tokenised securities can be issued, transferred, settled, and safeguarded through institutional market infrastructure. The group expanded from over 50 participants at its May 2026 announcement to more than 100 financial institutions, asset managers, and digital asset companies. Named members include JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, Nasdaq, Bank of America, Citi, and the New York Stock Exchange. DTCC processed its first live trades using DTC-tokenised assets in July, with the full service launch due in October covering Russell 1000 constituents, major index ETFs, and US Treasury securities.

Why HashKey's Seat Matters for Asian Markets

HashKey operates digital asset trading, asset management, and blockchain infrastructure across regulated markets in Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, and Bermuda. The company holds a Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission licence for retail crypto trading, making it one of the first exchanges in the territory to do so. HashKey joined the Hong Kong Monetary Authority's Project Ensemble Sandbox in August 2024 and the Tokenised Bond Expert Group formed in June 2026, both focused on tokenization standards in Asia. DTCC President and CEO Frank La Salla framed the tokenization service as a bridge between traditional and decentralized finance."Our vision is coming to fruition: launching our tokenization service and successfully bridging TradFi and DeFi," La Salla wrote in DTCC's May announcement. Adding an Asian-regulated participant to that effort signals that DTCC's tokenization framework is intended to function across time zones and regulatory regimes, not solely within the US domestic market.

October Launch Will Test Cross-Border Tokenization

The October service launch will include compliance and distribution controls for tokenised securities. DTCC's SEC-authorised framework, granted through a December 2025 No-Action Letter, covers Russell 1000 stocks, major index-tracking ETFs, and US Treasuries. The practical question is whether tokenised versions of these instruments will attract institutional demand or remain a proof-of-concept exercise.HashKey's presence in the group positions the company to shape how Asian-listed assets could eventually fit DTCC's tokenization standards. Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan each have their own tokenization pilots. Connecting those to DTCC's settlement layer would connect Asian venues to US institutional settlement infrastructure.Institutional investors and asset managers tracking tokenization should watch DTCC's October launch for the initial asset list, fee structure, and settlement mechanics. HashKey's admission creates a potential pathway for Asian-domiciled assets to enter DTCC-settled tokenization rails, but no cross-border product has been announced. The working group's expansion from 50 to over 100 members in four months indicates institutional appetite. Whether that appetite converts to actual trading volume on tokenized securities will become clear in Q4 2026.
