HPC and TradeXYZ Advocate for Energy Perpetual Contracts in U.S. Market

The Hyperliquid Policy Council (HPC) and TradeXYZ have submitted a comment letter to the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), urging the inclusion of energy perpetual contracts in the regulated U.S. market. This initiative follows significant disruptions in crude oil exports due to conflicts in the Middle East earlier this year, which highlighted the need for more flexible risk management tools in the energy sector.

During the initial weekend of the conflict, approximately two-thirds of price changes were executed on-chain, demonstrating the effectiveness of crude oil-linked perpetual contracts on the Hyperliquid platform. In May, the CFTC approved the first cryptocurrency-based perpetual contracts for futures trading in the U.S., and in June, it sought public input on energy perpetual contracts.

The letter from HPC and TradeXYZ advocates for a technology-neutral framework for evaluating energy perpetual contracts, emphasizing the importance of 24/7 trading capabilities. It also calls for the recognition of stablecoins and tokenized collateral as eligible margin and supports the use of on-chain infrastructure for execution, clearing, and settlement in regulated markets.
