Kalshi Seeks Approval for Perpetual Futures on Major U.S. Stocks

Kalshi, a derivatives exchange based in New York, is seeking regulatory approval to introduce perpetual futures contracts on individual stocks, specifically targeting major companies such as Tesla, Apple, and Nvidia. This move aims to integrate crypto-inspired trading instruments into traditional equity markets, a development that is likely to attract attention from both Wall Street and cryptocurrency traders.

The proposed filing will be submitted to the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). It plans to cover approximately 60 stock and exchange-traded fund (ETF)-linked perpetual futures products. Each contract would represent 100 shares, with a minimum margin requirement of about 15% of the notional value. To qualify for listing, stocks must have a minimum market capitalization of $100 billion and an average daily trading volume of at least $450 million, effectively limiting the offerings to large-cap stocks.

Kalshi's initiative follows its recent successes in the cryptocurrency space, having received CFTC approval for Bitcoin perpetual contracts in May 2026 and launching gold and silver perpetual futures in September 2026. However, the introduction of equity perpetual futures has raised concerns among some market participants, including CME Group, which has filed a lawsuit against the CFTC regarding the approval process, and Citadel Securities, which warns of potential compliance issues related to insider trading and investor protection. Kalshi is also exploring the addition of agricultural commodity perpetual futures to its offerings.
