Bitcoin Suisse to Reduce Swiss Workforce by Half Amid Global Expansion
Bitcoin Suisse, a prominent player in the Swiss cryptocurrency sector, is set to cut up to 60 positions in Switzerland as part of a strategic shift to relocate back-office roles to Bratislava, Slovakia, and Vietnam. This decision, announced on September 11, 2026, will reduce the company's Swiss workforce from 120 to approximately 60 employees, focusing on consolidating administrative and software development functions.
The Zug-based firm, founded in 2013, aims to transition from being a Swiss crypto specialist to a regulated global wealth manager targeting high-net-worth individuals and institutions. CEO Andrej Majcen emphasized that this restructuring is a proactive measure for international growth rather than a response to current market conditions. Bitcoin Suisse currently manages over $3 billion in digital assets and plans to maintain its client-facing roles and headquarters in Zug.
The move to lower-cost locations comes as Switzerland remains one of the most expensive countries for employing software developers and back-office staff. Bratislava has emerged as a popular nearshoring destination for European financial services, while Vietnam offers significant labor cost advantages for technical roles. This restructuring reflects a broader trend in the cryptocurrency industry, where companies are increasingly distributing operations globally to adapt to evolving regulatory environments and competitive pressures.
