Hey Wallet Shuts Down, Urging Solana Users to Migrate Assets
Hey Wallet, a social wallet service built on the Solana blockchain, has announced its closure, impacting users who utilized the platform to send SOL cryptocurrency through social media channels like X and Discord. The company communicated the shutdown via its official X account, advising users to back up their wallets at heywallet.com before the service ceases operations. While no specific date for the shutdown was provided, users were reminded to export their private keys and transfer their assets to other wallets.
Launched in 2021 during a Solana hackathon, Hey Wallet aimed to integrate blockchain functionality with popular web2 social networks. The service allowed users to send SOL to X handles, tip creators on Discord, and engage in token swaps via Telegram, all without the need for lengthy wallet addresses. The closure of Hey Wallet is part of a broader trend, as several wallet services, including HaHa Wallet and Magic Eden's ME Wallet, have also shut down this year.
Affected users are urged to take immediate action to secure their assets. The process involves visiting heywallet.com to export private keys or seed phrases, which can then be imported into other compatible Solana wallets such as Phantom or Solflare. As the tokens are stored on the blockchain rather than on Hey Wallet's servers, users can safeguard their assets by completing the migration before the service goes offline.
