Cryptocurrency Exchange Trading Volumes Surge Amid Bitcoin and Ethereum Price Increases

Trading volumes on cryptocurrency exchanges have doubled over the past five days, reaching $37 billion as Bitcoin and Ethereum experienced significant price increases. Bitcoin's value rose by 24%, while Ethereum saw a 34% gain during this period, contributing to the surge in trading activity.

Despite the recent increase, current trading volumes remain significantly lower than the 12-month peak of $105 billion recorded last October when Bitcoin reached an all-time high of just over $126,000. Monthly trading volumes for August are currently at $490 billion, compared to $670 billion for July.

The recent uptick in trading is attributed to several factors, including U.S. President Donald Trump's call for Congress to pass the Clarity Act, which aims to regulate digital assets. Additionally, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's interventions in the bond market to lower yields are seen as favorable for risk assets like cryptocurrencies. Stocks of major crypto exchanges, including Coinbase, Robinhood, and Gemini, have also seen increases of more than 10% in the past week.
