Donald Trump Jr.'s 1789 Capital Leads $1 Billion Funding Round for Polymarket

1789 Capital, the venture capital firm led by Donald Trump Jr., is spearheading a $1 billion financing round for the prediction market platform Polymarket, which has seen its valuation rise to $21 billion. A company spokesperson confirmed that 1789 Capital will contribute approximately $300 million to this funding round, following an earlier investment of around $200 million.

Polymarket's valuation has surged by about 40% from its previous figure of $15 billion in just a few months. The platform, along with its competitor Kalshi, allows users to place bets on the outcomes of various events, including political speeches and celebrity news, both of which have gained popularity over the past year.

The Trump family's involvement in the prediction market sector is growing. Donald Trump Jr. serves as an advisor to Kalshi and has received shares valued at over $300,000. He also provides advisory services for Polymarket. Michael Selig, the head of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), has expressed support for these platforms and has taken legal action against states attempting to impose regulations on the industry. In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump indicated that prediction markets would flourish under his leadership.
