      Liquidations Topped $645 Million as Bitcoin Surged to $81,000

      • On August 25, bitcoin climbed above $81,000.
      • Amid the market rally, more than $645 million in positions were liquidated over 24 hours, with most of it coming from shorts.

      On August 25, 2026, bitcoin broke above the $81,000 mark and is currently holding around $80,500. The sharp market surge triggered a massive wave of liquidations — over the past day, traders lost more than $645 million.

      According to CoinGlass, short-position holders took the biggest hit — about $457 million. Long liquidations totaled $189 million. The largest volumes of forced position closures by asset were:

      • bitcoin — $332 million
      • Ethereum — $150 million
      • Solana — $21 million
      • XRP — $14 million.

      Over 24 hours, 95,885 traders were liquidated. The largest single liquidation was recorded on Bitget in the BTC/USDT pair — $103.54 million.

      The lion’s share of forced closures came from Binance ($228.70 million) and Bitget ($175.70 million).

      In the decentralized sector, Hyperliquid stood out with $77.38 million. On Bybit and OKX, traders’ losses reached $56.68 million and $50.04 million, respectively.

      As a reminder, earlier Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong predicted that bitcoin would rise to $400,000 by 2030.
