Tether halts $120 million Bitcoin mining project due to contract dispute with Uruguay's UTE power company

Due to a contract dispute between Tether and Uruguay's state-owned power company UTE, Tether abandoned its roughly $120 million Bitcoin mining project in Uruguay. Tether and UTE disagreed over the amount of electricity supplied to two mining sites: Tether believed the agreed supply amount was a minimum that could be increased in the future, while UTE considered the figure to be the ceiling. Although the two sides tried to resolve the dispute by signing a revised contract, Tether's representatives did not attend the signing ceremony. In addition, Microfin, Tether's legal entity in Uruguay, stopped paying electricity bills two months after the change of government. Because the revised agreement had not been signed and electricity bills remained unpaid, UTE cut power to the sites on July 25, 2025. On November 25, Tether notified Uruguay's labor authorities that it would cease operations and lay off most employees.

Strive CEO: Next Bitcoin cycle could be the strongest ever; dollar depreciation and AI demand are structural tailwinds

Strive CEO Matt Cole posted that the BTC/gold ratio is sending a strong signal that the next Bitcoin cycle could be the strongest in history. There are currently two major structural factors: the long-term structural depreciation of the U.S. dollar, with Bitcoin never having experienced a true secular dollar-collapse environment; and in an AI-driven world of abundance, capital will increasingly chase "scarce assets" that cannot be replicated. If Bitcoin can outperform gold, it will attract disproportionate capital inflows and create a positive feedback loop.
