South Korea's Financial Services Commission: Promoting listed stock tokenization model verification and pilot centered on Korea Exchange

PANews, September 4 — According to Digital Asset, South Korea’s Financial Services Commission announced it will promote a listed stock tokenization model verification and pilot project centered on the Korea Exchange (KRX), referencing pilot programs at the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq. Unlisted stocks will be tokenized through a trust structure.

The Financial Services Commission released a three-stage roadmap for tokenizing established assets. The first stage will begin when the Token Securities Act takes effect in February 2027, with tokenization targets limited to private money market funds, private corporate bonds, and unlisted stocks, and restricted to institutional investors. The second stage will expand the scope to public offerings. The third stage will promote “on-chain settlement,” in which both securities and settlement instruments complete payment and settlement on the blockchain. The Financial Services Commission stated that on-chain settlement will be formally advanced after stablecoin legislation is enacted.
