Spot Bitcoin ETFs Experience $685 Million Inflows in One Day

On August 20, US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded over $685 million in inflows, marking the highest single-day net inflow since May 1. This surge in investment reflects a growing institutional interest in Bitcoin, with total inflows for the month surpassing $2 billion after a four-day streak of positive flows totaling approximately $1.61 billion.

Leading the influx was BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust, which accounted for about $503 million of the day's total, representing roughly 83% of the inflows. Fidelity's FBTC followed with around $65 million, while Bitwise's BITB added approximately $26 million. Other funds, such as ARK/21Shares' ARKB, saw minor increases, but VanEck's HODL experienced slight outflows.

Since the launch of US spot Bitcoin ETFs on January 11, 2024, cumulative net inflows have reached approximately $53.4 billion, with total assets under management across the 12 approved Bitcoin funds nearing $90.2 billion. Bitcoin's price was around $75,500 during this latest buying wave, highlighting the interconnectedness between ETF inflows and market prices, as significant inflows necessitate the purchase of actual Bitcoin, thereby exerting upward pressure on prices.
