Tesla Achieves 59% Share of US Electric Vehicle Market in Q4 2025

Tesla captured 59% of all electric vehicle sales in the United States during the fourth quarter of 2025, marking a significant increase from 41% in the previous quarter. This performance represents Tesla's strongest quarterly showing since 2023, according to data analyzed from Cox Automotive figures by CareEdge.

Despite the overall decline in the electric vehicle market, which saw total sales drop by 29.9% year-over-year to approximately 66,000 units in January 2026, Tesla's market share rose to 60.5%. This increase occurred even as Tesla's own sales fell by 17% month-over-month. For the entire year of 2026, Tesla is projected to hold about 45% of the US EV market, a decrease from 49% in 2024.

The Model Y and Model 3 continue to be the primary contributors to Tesla's success, benefiting from a combination of competitive pricing and strong brand recognition. Meanwhile, the expiration and reduction of federal EV incentives have adversely affected traditional automakers, particularly those with higher-priced models, allowing Tesla to maintain its market dominance.

Hyundai, Toyota, Cadillac, and Rivian now comprise the top five EV sellers in the US, with Ford notably falling out of this group as of January 2026. The shifting landscape underscores the impact of government policies on consumer purchasing decisions, which legacy automakers are closely monitoring as they adjust their pricing strategies.
