Trump Called for the Adoption of the CLARITY Act at a Meeting With Representatives of Crypto Companies

      • On August 19, Trump met with representatives of the crypto sector at the White House.
      • The president summed up the administration’s work on regulating the sector and urged approval of the CLARITY Act.
      • Coinbase CEO said the vote on it will take place on September 15.
      • As experts previously noted, this is the last chance to pass the bill.

On August 19, 2026, a meeting was held at the White House between U.S. President Donald Trump and representatives of crypto companies. During the event, the head of state emphasized the importance of the market structure bill (the CLARITY Act) and urged Congress to pass it.

This meeting was known in advance. Notably, it was initially said that representatives of prediction markets, including Kalshi, would take part, but in the end they were not invited.

Attendees at the summit included Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi, Ripple Labs CEO Brad Garlinghouse, and Gemini co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. As expected, the administration also invited TradFi representatives, including Nasdaq CEO Adena Friedman and Intercontinental Exchange CEO Jeffrey Sprecher.

In addition, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Paul Atkins and U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chair Mike Selig also took part in the event.

Shortly before the summit, the SEC presented a draft set of rules for token sales, and on August 20 the CFTC will hold a meeting of its new Innovation Advisory Committee.

During the meeting, the parties discussed regulation of the cryptocurrency industry. All participants agreed that the CLARITY Act is necessary for the sector’s stability, and that it will also help lock in the current administration’s regulatory efforts even after its term ends.

“New financial technologies are carrying American leadership into the 21st century. That is why we are focused on creating a clear regulatory framework for pioneers and builders, so they can confidently do business on American soil and don’t have to leave for other countries. We are working to ensure that America remains the undisputed leader not only in bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, but also in technologies such as prediction markets, artificial intelligence, and much more,” Trump emphasized.

The president also openly urged Congress to pass the CLARITY Act, stressing that it is necessary to secure U.S. leadership in international competition.

Selig and Atkins agreed with him. The heads of the regulators emphasized that the era of regulation by enforcement is already over. However, markets need regulatory clarity, the SEC chair said, so it is important to pass a framework bill.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong noted that the current version of the CLARITY Act is the result of painstaking work. According to him, the administration managed to reach a compromise with Democrats on certain provisions.

“The most important thing that needs to happen next is the vote on the CLARITY Act on September 15. This law will make all the progress achieved by the current administration durable and preserve it for decades to come. Make no mistake: there are people who would like this law not to pass. If we all join forces, I think we can get it across the finish line,” he added.

Chainlink Labs CEO Sergey Nazarov told CoinDesk in an interview that the president is confident the initiative will succeed. According to him, “there aren’t many issues, and there is a small group of senators who need to be convinced of the need to regulate the sector.”

Why was the Vote on the CLARITY Act Moved to September?

Consideration of the bill was postponed before the U.S. Senate went on recess. At the same time, congressional elections will take place as early as November 2026. As Solana Policy Institute CEO Miller Whitehouse-Levine noted, the window for passing the bill has almost closed.

As Armstrong noted, the bill will be considered on September 15. If it is not passed, then, according to industry experts, it will be deemed “dead” and shelved indefinitely.
