AI Agents Execute Over 8,700 Bitcoin Transactions on Stacks Network

The Stacks network has enabled AI agents to autonomously conduct Bitcoin transactions, with the AIBTC protocol reporting over 8,700 onchain transactions in the first quarter of 2026. More than 150 AI agents are now operational, executing transactions without human intervention, marking a significant development in the machine economy.

These AI agents utilize sBTC, a Bitcoin-backed asset native to Stacks, along with STX and USDCx for their transactions. The x402-Stacks protocol facilitates pay-per-request transactions, allowing software to pay other software for services or data in real-time. Specific agents, such as Sonic Mast and Tiny Marten, have been accumulating and transacting in satoshis since February 2026, with their activities verifiable through their onchain addresses.

The growth of active agents on the Stacks network has been notable, increasing from 105 to 766 within a week, with a target of reaching 10,000 active agents. The network has also implemented upgrades to enhance programmability and transaction speeds to support this expanding agent population. This development underscores the evolving utility of Bitcoin as AI agents operate continuously and require micropayment capabilities, distinguishing their needs from those of human users.
