Vanguard S&P 500 ETF Achieves Record Inflows of $13 Billion in One Week
Vanguard's S&P 500 ETF, known by its ticker VOO, has recorded an unprecedented inflow of approximately $13 billion in a single week, solidifying its position as the leading exchange-traded fund (ETF) in the United States. This remarkable influx of capital nearly matches the entire annual inflow record from the previous year, highlighting the ETF's growing popularity among investors.
In June 2026, VOO became the first ETF to surpass $1 trillion in assets under management. Year-to-date inflows for 2026 are estimated to be between $75 billion and $110 billion, far exceeding those of any other US-listed ETF. The momentum continued into early September, with daily inflows ranging from $2.99 billion to $3.28 billion, further demonstrating investor confidence in the fund.
The primary driver behind VOO's success is its low expense ratio of 0.03%, which translates to an annual cost of just $3 for every $10,000 invested. In contrast, its main competitor, State Street's SPY, charges 0.09%, making VOO a more attractive option for buy-and-hold investors. While SPY and BlackRock's IVV have seen combined outflows of nearly $20 billion, VOO's cost advantage and Vanguard's unique mutual ownership structure allow it to maintain competitive pricing and attract significant capital.
