Durov Announced the Launch of Gram Wallet in Telegram

• A small group of Telegram users has gained access to Gram Wallet.
• It is a non-custodial crypto wallet whose smart contract runs on The Open Network.
• According to Durov, access to the service will be expanded in the near future.

Pavel Durov, Telegram’s co-founder, announced the launch of a new crypto wallet, Gram Wallet, in the messenger. For now, the service is available only to a limited group of users, but access is expected to be expanded in the near future. 

As a reminder, Durov reported back in late July 2026 that the solution was in development. The wallet is positioned as non-custodial and native, meaning it is built directly into the messenger. 

At the moment, the app has a separate Wallet service. It already offers custodial and non-custodial wallets (TON Wallet, and later — DeFi Account). However, these are third-party solutions.

Whether Gram Wallet will replace the Wallet bot or run alongside it is unknown at the time of writing. In his post, Durov said the following:

“Over the next few weeks, we will gradually expand access to it [Gram Wallet] to our audience of more than a billion users.” 

Telegram’s co-founder also noted that subsequent updates will not require a labor-intensive process, since validators have approved the smart contract underpinning the solution. 

The new wallet runs on The Open Network. Confirmation can be found in the project’s GitHub repository. The contract vote took place on August 27–28, 2026, according to the TonNomads community. 

The group also said that after Pavel Durov’s announcement of the new wallet, the @wallet bot had its verification badge removed. 

It is possible that concerns about one wallet replacing another triggered the negative reaction in Gram’s price. The coin fell 2.4% following the announcement. 

Previously, the asset was called Toncoin. The rebrand took place in June 2026. Gram is the coin’s original name, as set out in the white paper.
