Fogo Blockchain Suspended Operations Following a Cybersecurity Incident

      • Fogo Foundation suffered a compromise and the theft of 400 million FOGO — about $3 million.
      • After that, the team halted the network to freeze the assets.
      • More than two days later, the blockchain remains offline.

Developers of the Fogo Layer 1 blockchain said the network has been halted. Earlier, reports emerged that the Fogo Foundation had suffered a cybersecurity incident and lost 400 million FOGO.

Information about the hack surfaced early on the morning of August 29, 2026. The post said the Fogo Foundation had been compromised, and 400 million FOGO was “sent to the attacker.”

No details of the incident were disclosed. However, the team said it had contacted law enforcement and onchain experts. Notably, the post emphasized that the blockchain itself was not affected and supposedly “continues to operate.”

However, later that afternoon the team said the network was offline. The decision was made to limit any further movement of the assets. As of writing, more than two days after the incident was disclosed, the team has not provided any new details.

Note that Fogo is an SVM-based Layer 1 blockchain that runs on the Firedancer client. The mainnet launched in January 2026.

According to Token Unlocks, the asset’s maximum supply is 10 billion FOGO. The portal says the Fogo Foundation’s share was 30.38%.

This suggests the attacker gained access to a 4% share of the total supply and about 10% of the circulating supply, according to CoinMarketCap. The token itself fell from $0.009 to $0.0074 at the time of writing.

Notably, an hour before the report about the compromise of the Fogo Foundation, the Bitget exchange announced that it had suspended deposits and withdrawals on the network, allegedly for technical reasons. Later, the KuCoin exchange did the same.

Previously, we covered the hack of the Tectonic protocol for up to $75 million, which led to the Cronos Network blockchain being halted.
