Ethereum Foundation Targets Quantum Resistance by 2029

The Ethereum Foundation has announced its commitment to enhance the security of its blockchain against potential quantum computer attacks by the year 2029. This initiative aims to protect transaction processing, validator security, and data storage from the anticipated capabilities of quantum computers, which analysts predict could break current cryptographic methods by 2030.

In a statement, the Foundation emphasized the seriousness of the quantum threat and outlined its timeline, which includes the upcoming Hegotá upgrade scheduled for 2027. This upgrade will serve as a critical step toward achieving quantum resistance, with five additional hard forks planned between 2027 and 2029, occurring approximately every 7.2 months.

The move aligns with similar efforts by major technology companies, including Google and Microsoft, which are also working towards quantum-proof solutions. As of September 9, Ethereum's cryptocurrency, ETH, is trading at $2,505 U.S., reflecting ongoing interest in the platform amidst these significant security developments.
