Michael Burry Joins Minerva Investment Management as Senior Advisor

Michael Burry, renowned for his prescient bet against the housing market prior to the 2008 financial crisis, has been appointed as a senior advisor at Minerva Investment Management. This new role places him within a short-biased hedge fund developed by the Unicus Research team, led by Lakshmi Ganapathi. Unicus Research, a firm specializing in credit analysis and short-selling, has been gaining traction with institutional clients since its establishment around 2020.

Burry's involvement with Minerva comes after he closed Scion Asset Management in November 2025, where he managed approximately $155 million. His transition to Minerva indicates a shift rather than retirement, as the fund aims to capitalize on market downturns by primarily betting against stocks. Unicus Research has reportedly issued 59 short recommendations since its inception, with a high success rate, further aligning with Burry's investment philosophy.

While Burry's role at Minerva is advisory and does not include day-to-day management, his experience in value investing and contrarian strategies is expected to influence the fund's direction. His previous successes, including a $100 million personal gain and $700 million for investors during the housing market collapse, underscore the significance of his insights. Recently, Burry has also targeted overvalued AI stocks, indicating his ongoing commitment to identifying market discrepancies.
