Nvidia Responds to Report on Groq 3 Language Processing Unit

Nvidia has issued a public correction regarding a report by The Information that it claims contained inaccuracies about its Groq 3 Language Processing Unit (LPU). The company emphasized that the report mischaracterized key specifications of the LPU and implied incorrect strategic intentions related to its operations in China.

The Groq 3 LPU, introduced at Nvidia's GTC 2026 event, is designed for low-latency, high-concurrency inference workloads, complementing Nvidia's existing GPU lineup. Each chip features 500 MB of on-chip SRAM and provides 150 TB/s of bandwidth, with the capability to integrate 256 LPUs per rack for ultra-low-latency applications.

Nvidia's licensing agreement with chip startup Groq, valued at approximately $20 billion, aims to enhance its AI offerings by incorporating Groq's technology into its Vera Rubin AI platform. This move is seen as a strategy to consolidate Nvidia's position in the fast-evolving AI chip market, where it faces competition from companies like AMD and various AI startups.
