Reform UK Receives Significant Donations from Crypto Industry Figures

Reform UK has reported that 75% of its private donations in the first quarter of 2026 came from two prominent figures in the cryptocurrency sector. Ben Delo, co-founder of the derivatives exchange BitMEX, contributed £4 million, while Christopher Harborne, an investor linked to Tether and Bitfinex, donated £3 million. Together, their contributions totaled £7 million, which is a substantial portion of the £9.3 million raised by the party from private donors during this period.

The donations from Delo and Harborne not only dominated Reform UK's funding but also represented approximately 28% of all political donations reported to UK parties in that quarter. Delo's contributions were made in two equal payments of £2 million each in January and March, while Harborne's £3 million was received on January 23. All funds were transferred in fiat currency, as confirmed by Electoral Commission records.

Delo has previously faced regulatory scrutiny related to BitMEX's compliance with anti-money laundering regulations but received a presidential pardon from Donald Trump. He has publicly expressed his support for Reform UK, aligning with the party's pro-crypto stance. Harborne, who has contributed between £12 million and £15 million to the party since late 2025, has been a significant financial backer, reflecting the party's appeal to the cryptocurrency community.

Under the leadership of Nigel Farage, Reform UK has positioned itself as the most crypto-friendly major political party in the UK, advocating for policies that favor digital asset holders, including proposals to reduce capital gains tax on cryptocurrency investments. As the regulatory landscape for cryptocurrencies in Britain evolves, the party's alignment with the crypto industry may influence its future funding and political strategies.
