River Report Advocates Increased Bitcoin Allocation for Long-term Investors

Bitcoin financial services company River has published a report advocating for a shift in investment strategies, particularly for long-term investors. The report, authored by Sam Baker, argues that the traditional 60/40 stock-bond portfolio is becoming obsolete. It recommends that investors consider increasing their Bitcoin allocation to as much as 10%.

The report highlights significant changes in the financial landscape, noting that from 1980 to 2020, the annualized return of the traditional portfolio ranged from 5% to 15%. However, factors such as rising inflation, increasing debt, and the changing correlation between stocks and bonds have prompted a reevaluation of this strategy. As of August 2026, U.S. Treasury bonds have surpassed $40 trillion in value.

Simulations conducted over the past decade suggest that incorporating 10% Bitcoin into a portfolio could substantially enhance its terminal value, increasing it from $25,364 to $60,595, while only slightly increasing the maximum drawdown by 6 percentage points. Currently, Bitcoin represents approximately 0.5% of global financial assets, indicating its growing presence in the investment landscape.
