BlackRock’s IBIT Reports $144 Million in Net Outflows Amid Bitcoin ETF Declines

On September 15, 2026, BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, known as IBIT, experienced approximately $144 million in net outflows, contributing to a significant decline in the overall market for spot bitcoin and ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs). This drop was part of a larger trend, with combined redemptions from these funds exceeding $520 million in a single day, marking one of the largest sell-offs in recent months.

The outflows from IBIT followed a previous session where the fund recorded $161.7 million in redemptions. Fidelity’s FBTC was the largest contributor to the prior day’s sell-off, with $214.8 million exiting the fund. Other funds, including Bitwise’s BITB, ARK 21Shares’ ARKB, and Grayscale’s GBTC, also saw notable outflows, reflecting a broader trend affecting the cryptocurrency ETF market.

Market analysts attribute these outflows to rising U.S. Treasury yields, which have made riskier assets like bitcoin less appealing to investors. As portfolio managers adjust their holdings in response to changing market conditions, the cumulative flows for September have been modestly positive, with inflows and outflows largely offsetting each other. Despite the recent redemptions, IBIT remains the largest bitcoin ETF by assets, holding approximately $59 billion to $60 billion in net assets and having added over $1 billion in bitcoin holdings during a recent accumulation period.
