Ryan Cohen Increases GameStop Stake with $20 Million Purchase

Ryan Cohen, the CEO of GameStop Corp., has acquired an additional 1 million shares of the company's stock, investing approximately $20.38 million at a weighted average price of $20.38 per share. This purchase, made on September 10, 2026, raises Cohen's direct beneficial ownership to nearly 39.35 million shares, while including warrants, his total stake reaches about 43.08 million shares, representing approximately 8.5% of GameStop's total shares outstanding of 504.5 million.

Cohen's recent acquisition is part of a broader trend, as he has consistently purchased shares using personal funds over the past year. In April 2025, he bought 500,000 shares at an average price of $21.55, followed by another million shares in January 2026 at $21.36 each. Each of these transactions has been executed on the open market, reflecting his commitment to aligning his interests with those of GameStop's shareholders.

This latest investment coincides with Cohen's proposed performance-based compensation package, which requires shareholder approval. The plan ties his future awards to achieving a market capitalization of $100 billion for GameStop, a significant increase from its current market cap of around $10 billion based on recent share prices. The upcoming vote on this compensation package will be a critical milestone for both Cohen and the company's future direction.
