Decentralized Exchanges Surpass 1,000 Real-World Asset Markets with Public Equities Leading
Decentralized perpetual exchanges (DEXs) have reached a significant milestone, now offering over 1,000 markets for real-world assets (RWAs). Among these, approximately 747 markets are dedicated to trading tokenized versions of publicly listed stocks, which account for 75% of the total listings. This growth has resulted in an open interest of $2.586 billion in equity markets, reflecting a robust trading environment that extends beyond casual speculation.
The trading volume for public equity perpetuals stands at $1.681 billion over a 24-hour period, indicating strong participation from both retail and institutional traders. This shift in the decentralized finance landscape allows traders to access leveraged exposure to U.S.-listed stocks at any time, without the limitations of traditional market hours. Key platforms such as Hyperliquid, Ostium, and Lighter are driving this expansion, collectively contributing to the diverse offerings available on these exchanges.
The rise of tokenized stock trading on DEXs highlights a growing preference for alternatives to conventional trading venues, characterized by features such as instant settlement and self-custody of collateral. However, the regulatory environment remains uncertain, particularly in jurisdictions like the United States, where regulators have been cautious about allowing unregistered derivatives on securities. As the market continues to evolve, the implications for both traders and regulators will be closely monitored.
