Toyota Started Selling Tokenized Bonds via TOYOTA Wallet for the First Time

Toyota has tokenized corporate bonds.
You can invest via the TOYOTA Wallet mobile wallet with a minimum of $676.
Investors are promised 1.72% per year and bonuses.

Toyota’s financial arm — Toyota Finance — has opened applications for the first self-issued tokenized corporate bonds in Toyota Group history. Investors in Japan can buy a one-year bond via the TOYOTA Wallet mobile app without opening a brokerage account, making the investment product more accessible to retail clients.

This is the Toyota Finance 2nd Security Token Corporate Bond, which the company also called the TOYOTA Wallet Tsumugu Bond.

The minimum investment amount is 100,000 Japanese yen (about $676), and the issuance size is 1 billion yen ($6.43 million). The bond has a one-year maturity and offers 1.72% per year.

The security is being tokenized on the blockchain infrastructure of Japanese company BOOSTRY. The project is also supported by Toyota Financial Services and SMBC Group.

Investing via TOYOTA Wallet

Unlike traditional Toyota bonds, the new product can be purchased without opening a securities account. All you need to do is install TOYOTA Wallet and submit an application via a dedicated page.

Toyota Finance explained that the direct issuance model allows the company to bring together within a single ecosystem:

Bond application submission
Communication with investors throughout the term
Providing bonuses and other benefits to holders of the tokenized asset

Investors can also receive a cash bonus credited to their TOYOTA Wallet balance for meeting certain conditions. Additional perks include a chance to win tickets to races at Fuji Speedway, as well as take part in test drives of select Lexus, GR, and classic Toyota models.

The company says this model is designed to create a more accessible and cohesive investment experience.

Toyota Financial Services and Toyota Finance have previously issued tokenized bonds, with the first such issuance taking place in March 2025. At the time, investors bought the securities through traditional securities accounts.

This time, Toyota changed its approach and moved to a self-managed placement to control the entire investor interaction process — from application submission to communication and bonus distribution.

Previously, New York Life Investment Management said that personalized investment portfolios could become the next major stage in the development of tokenization. Thomas Tsai, head of the multi-asset solutions division, emphasized that the technology’s potential lies not only in 24/7 trading or faster settlement, but in the ability to scale individualized investment strategies.
