US Spot Bitcoin ETFs Experience $166 Million Outflow Amid Price Stabilization

U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced a significant outflow of approximately $166.8 million over two days, September 8 and 9, 2026, marking the end of a three-week inflow streak. This decline occurred while Bitcoin prices hovered between $78,000 and $79,000, prompting institutional investors to reassess their positions and pull back on investments.

The outflow was particularly pronounced on September 9, when net withdrawals reached $120.2 million, following $46.6 million in outflows the previous day. Ark 21Shares' ARKB ETF was the largest contributor to this trend, losing around $78 million on September 9 alone. Other notable outflows included Grayscale's GBTC, which saw $27.2 million exit, and BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), which recorded $19.5 million in withdrawals. In contrast, Morgan Stanley's MSBT ETF was the only fund to attract new investments, gaining $4.5 million during the same period.

Despite the recent outflows, the overall spot Bitcoin ETF market has seen cumulative net inflows of approximately $55.45 billion since its inception in early 2024, with total assets under management reaching about $99.3 billion. The recent outflow represents roughly 0.17% of the total assets in U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs, indicating that while the withdrawals are notable, they are relatively small in the context of the overall market. As the total assets approach the psychologically significant $100 billion mark, there may be renewed interest from institutional investors.
