Aerodrome PGF Completes $140K AERO Token Buyback

Aerodrome Finance's Public Goods Fund has executed a buyback of 325,000 AERO tokens, valued at approximately $140,000. This transaction marks the second significant repurchase in just over a week, following a previous buyback of 343,000 AERO tokens announced on August 12. Both buybacks fall within the 300,000 to 400,000 AERO range, which has become the preferred target for the Public Goods Fund in recent operations.

The buyback was conducted using a market-timing strategy, and the acquired tokens are typically locked into the veAERO governance system. This process removes the tokens from circulation for an extended period, converting them into voting power within the protocol's governance framework. Currently, Aerodrome holds between 184 million and 190 million locked AERO tokens as part of its governance initiatives.

Following the announcement of the buyback, AERO experienced a price increase of approximately 4.5% in intraday trading, with gains exceeding 7% over a 24-hour period. In a strategic shift, Aerodrome is transitioning its Public Goods Fund operations to a new entity called the Momentum Fund, which will focus entirely on buybacks and supporting the protocol.
