Bitwise to Liquidate Dogecoin ETF Less Than a Year After Launch

Bitwise Investment Advisers has announced the liquidation of its Dogecoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), BWOW, which will cease trading on October 14, 2026. The fund, which debuted on NYSE Arca on November 26, 2025, initially generated $3 million in trading volume on its first day but saw a significant decline in interest as Dogecoin's price fell nearly 40% over the following months.

By June 30, 2026, BWOW's assets had dwindled to approximately $473,699, holding around 6.56 million DOGE tokens. The net asset value per share dropped from $19.21 at the end of 2025 to $11.84 by mid-2026, reflecting a total return of negative 38.37% for the first half of the year. In recent months, the fund's assets fell below the $1 million mark, prompting Bitwise to reassess its product offerings.

Bitwise cited poor investor uptake as a primary reason for the closure, alongside a broader strategy to streamline its portfolio, which has already seen the closure of several underperforming option-income strategy ETFs in July 2026. Despite the shutdown of BWOW, Bitwise continues to manage products linked to more established cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ether. Shareholders of BWOW will receive final cash distributions on October 22, 2026, following the end of trading.
