Ethereum Re-enters Global Top 100 Assets by Market Capitalization

Ethereum has regained its position among the world's top assets, climbing from 100th to 61st place in global market capitalization. This recovery reflects a significant rebound throughout 2026, with the cryptocurrency's market cap surpassing $300 billion by mid-September. This resurgence follows a period of volatility earlier in the year, where Ethereum's market cap fluctuated between $215 billion and $216 billion in early July, after briefly falling below the top 100 threshold in late June.

In January 2026, Ethereum had reached as high as 56th globally, boasting a market cap of approximately $305 billion. However, a sharp decline of 14.43% in value soon after caused it to drop significantly in the rankings. By mid-September, Ethereum's price was trading between $2,500 and $2,600, marking a recovery that was influenced by U.S. inflation data and shifting risk sentiment, rather than any major upgrades or events within the Ethereum network.

Historically, Ethereum first entered the global top 100 asset rankings in January 2021, starting at 97th place with a market cap of around $132 billion. The circulating supply of Ethereum tokens has also increased, from approximately 120.68 million in early July 2026 to around 122 million by September. Meanwhile, Bitcoin has maintained a ranking of around 15th among global assets, highlighting the significant gap in perceived value between the two leading cryptocurrencies.
