Coinbase launches tokenized stocks on Base network, supporting US stocks such as Apple, Nvidia

PANews reported on August 25 that Coinbase announced that its issued tokenized stocks are now natively live on the Base network, based on the B20 standard, held 1:1 by regulated custodians, and token holders have full ownership of the shares. Institutional market makers buy the stocks as authorized participants and then custody them with the regulated broker Alpaca, using a bankruptcy-remote structure regulated by the Abu Dhabi Global Market. The initial batch supports U.S. stocks such as Apple and Nvidia. Users can hold them in self-custodial wallets, access liquidity on Aerodrome, and use them for lending and portfolios in the Base DeFi ecosystem, with support for dividend income and use as collateral.

The B20 standard extends ERC-20 and requires no whitelist or platform lockups. Dividends and stock splits are handled via on-chain multipliers without affecting DeFi positions. Tokenized stocks are currently available only to eligible users outside the United States, offering 24/7 global access. Base said more stocks and other RWA assets will go live in the coming weeks, and the Base Ecosystem Fund is supporting development teams in related areas.
