CoinEx to Shut Down Operations by December 22, 2026

CoinEx, a cryptocurrency exchange based in Hong Kong, announced on September 14, 2026, that it will cease all trading operations, with a complete shutdown expected by December 22, 2026. The decision comes after nearly nine years of operation, attributed to a downturn in the cryptocurrency market, declining trading volumes, liquidity issues, and rising compliance costs that have become unsustainable.

The shutdown will occur in phases, starting with non-spot trading services, including futures and margin products, which will be discontinued by September 22. Spot trading will end a week later on September 29, after which the platform will transition to a withdrawal-only mode until the final closure. CoinEx has assured users that their funds are fully backed and available for withdrawal throughout this process, maintaining an asset reserve ratio above 100%.

In addition to the exchange, CoinEx Smart Chain and OneSwap, its decentralized exchange, will also halt operations. However, the ViaBTC mining pool, which shares corporate ties with CoinEx, will continue to operate independently. The exchange's exit from the European Economic Area and a recent security breach that resulted in the loss of funds have further compounded its challenges. Users are urged to withdraw their assets before the December deadline to avoid a 5% monthly custody fee on any unwithdrawn USDT.
