TrueMoney Partners with Fireblocks to Launch THBT Digital Wallet in Thailand
TrueMoney, Thailand's leading e-wallet provider with approximately 20 million monthly active users, has announced a partnership with Fireblocks to integrate a new digital wallet that supports a baht-pegged digital currency known as THBT. This initiative allows users to hold, swap, and spend THBT without needing to manage private keys or understand blockchain technology, making it accessible to a broader audience.
The THBT token is built on Coinbase's Base chain and is fully backed by Thai Baht reserves held in local bank accounts. It operates under the Bank of Thailand's Enhanced Regulatory Sandbox for programmable payments. The pilot program began in August 2025 with an initial limit of 3,000 users, which will expand to 20,000 participants by mid-August 2026. Each user can receive a maximum of 10,000 THBT monthly, equivalent to approximately $280, ensuring a controlled environment for generating transaction data.
The integration with Fireblocks enables users to convert Thai Baht to THBT and exchange it for other digital assets directly within the TrueMoney app, eliminating the complexities typically associated with cryptocurrency transactions. The second phase of the project will introduce six foreign-currency-referenced tokens, facilitating cross-border transactions. TrueMoney and Fireblocks executives highlighted their goals for composability with other public blockchain services during discussions at Money20/20 Asia in April 2026.
The Bank of Thailand's sandbox program, which oversees this initiative, is set to conclude on December 31, 2026. After this date, any remaining THBT balances will be converted back to fiat currency within 30 business days. The reserves for THBT are securely held in Thai bank accounts, ensuring regulatory compliance and security.
