Media: Democrats Are Preparing Large-Scale Investigations into Trump if They Win the Election

  • Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives are preparing sweeping investigations into Donald Trump and his administration.
  • A separate focus is the growing wealth of the president and his family, including income from cryptocurrency projects.
  • Lawmakers also plan to scrutinize immigration policy, the restructuring of the federal government, foreign policy, and possible pressure on U.S. institutions.

Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives are preparing an expansive investigative agenda targeting President Donald Trump, his administration, and his family. The Washington Post reported this, citing Democratic lawmakers and congressional staff.

These plans would come into play if Democrats regain control of the House of Representatives after the November midterm elections.

Cryptocurrency and the Trump family’s wealth

One of the main tracks could be an investigation into how Trump and his family have increased their wealth while he is in office. The Oversight Committee, which would likely be chaired by Robert Garcia if Democrats win, is already keeping a tracker of the Trump family’s income from cryptocurrency and foreign deals, journalists noted.

According to the committee’s estimate, Trump received $2.25 billion in foreign payments during the first year of his second presidential term.

Separately, Rep. Jamie Raskin, who could chair the House Judiciary Committee, requested information about investments by the venture firms 1789 Capital and American Ventures, which are linked to the president’s sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump.

Democrats want to scrutinize companies that received investments from the president’s sons and later secured government contracts or favorable decisions from the administration. Trump’s dealings with the Internal Revenue Service, his social network Truth Social, and Jared Kushner’s business activities could also draw attention.

Pardons and deals for allies

Another track will focus on Trump’s decisions to pardon convicted individuals who had financial or political ties to his circle. Democrats also plan to review the administration’s energy and extraction deals.

In particular, this includes a proposed $1.2 billion settlement with a German energy company that предусматриває investing a significant share of the funds into a liquefied natural gas project in Louisiana tied to a Trump donor.

Government restructuring, immigration policy, and political persecution

Democrats plan to investigate a sweeping overhaul of the federal government, including cuts to civil servants, DOGE’s activities, the dismantling of USAID, and plans for the Department of Education.

Separately, they want to scrutinize the administration’s actions on migration. Potential targets of investigations include the detention of citizens and lawful residents, the work of immigration agencies, deaths in migrant detention centers, the deployment of the National Guard, and government contracts. Another possible line of inquiry could be criminal cases against Trump’s political opponents.

Foreign Policy and the Crypto Business

Democrats may also pay special attention to the role of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in international negotiations.

According to Congressman Gregory Meeks, a potential conflict of interest in diplomatic activity could become the subject of an investigation. He cited a deal under which investors linked to the UAE bought a $500 million stake in a crypto company run by Trump’s sons and Witkoff shortly before the president’s inauguration.

White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said that Witkoff sold his assets in the crypto project, and that his private business and Kushner’s activities are not connected to diplomatic work.

Other potential areas include trade policy, a war with Iran, US actions regarding Venezuela, the reconstruction of Gaza, and a new presidential aircraft gifted by Qatar.

The White House Prepares for a Showdown

The Trump administration is already preparing for a possible shift of the House of Representatives under Democratic control.

White House lawyers are briefing political appointees for future congressional oversight. The Justice Department has also raised the possibility of invoking executive privilege to limit responses to lawmakers’ requests. Democrats, meanwhile, acknowledge that they will need to approach investigations cautiously.

As a reminder, earlier Donald Trump promised to pay $5,000 to every adult US citizen if Republicans win the midterm elections.
