India's New Semiconductor Policy Attracts Approximately $12 Billion in Investment Commitments

PANews, September 17 – According to Bloomberg, India has secured cumulative investment commitments of approximately $12 billion from global and domestic companies within months of launching its new semiconductor industry policy, involving supply chain enterprises such as chip equipment, materials, and chemicals. This surge in interest follows India's announcement in July of an additional $13.4 billion semiconductor fund, building on a previous $10 billion subsidy program, to support companies including the Tata Group and Micron in building wafer fabs and assembly and testing facilities locally. India's Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, stated that the related investments will materialize over the next two to three years, with some projects already in production and their capacity largely booked. Tata Electronics also signed multiple cooperation agreements at the meeting with Nexperia, Fujifilm, and others, covering wafer manufacturing, assembly and testing, and localization of key materials.
