Mistral and HUMAIN Partner to Develop AI Infrastructure in Saudi Arabia

Mistral, a French open-source AI laboratory, has announced a collaboration with HUMAIN, an AI company under the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), to establish sovereign AI infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and the surrounding region. This partnership, valued at hundreds of millions of euros, aims to address the increasing demand for AI solutions that prioritize local data control and ownership of models with open weights.

The collaboration will focus on developing and localizing advanced AI models and deploying solutions tailored to the needs of Saudi Arabia. Mistral plans to enhance its computing capabilities through its division, Mistral Compute, allowing it to utilize local computing resources instead of relying on external power sources from Europe and the United States. Initial projects will target cybersecurity and voice technologies, incorporating inference and advanced Arabic models.

HUMAIN has been actively building its infrastructure, recently expanding its partnership with NVIDIA to deploy up to 600,000 AI systems, including the GB300 platform, over the next three years. Additionally, HUMAIN has agreements with xAI for a data center with over 500 MW capacity and with AWS to manage up to 150,000 GPUs in the Riyadh AI Zone. A joint venture with AMD and Cisco aims to establish up to 1 GW of AI infrastructure by 2030.
