Pentagon Reports 774 US Casualties in Ongoing Iran Conflict

The Pentagon has reported that 774 US service members have been either wounded or killed in the ongoing conflict with Iran, which has now surpassed six months. The figures, sourced from the Defense Casualty Analysis System, indicate that 18 service members have died and approximately 757 have sustained injuries since operations commenced on February 28, 2026.

The casualties are categorized into two operational phases. The initial phase, known as Operation Epic Fury, encompassed the early months of joint military actions by the US and Israel against Iran. In July 2026, the Pentagon introduced a new classification termed 'Overseas Operations' to account for incidents occurring in Kuwait, Jordan, and Iraq, which has led to a significant increase in reported wounded service members.

Concerns regarding transparency in casualty reporting have been raised, as the Defense Casualty Analysis System has undergone multiple updates since the conflict began. Independent analyses suggest that the actual number of casualties may be higher than the official figures, as they do not account for losses among allied forces or contractors. The Pentagon has committed to ongoing updates through the DCAS, but discrepancies between official counts and independent estimates continue to highlight challenges in accurately portraying the human cost of military engagements.
