RLUSD Stablecoin Market Cap Exceeds $2 Billion
Ripple's regulated stablecoin, RLUSD, has surpassed a market cap of $2 billion, marking it as one of the fastest-growing stablecoins in the cryptocurrency market. As of the week of August 18-22, nearly $1 billion of RLUSD's supply is issued on the XRP Ledger, which now accounts for over 90% of the stablecoin supply on that platform.
The total circulating supply of RLUSD is estimated to be between 2.07 and 2.09 billion tokens, distributed across both the XRP Ledger and Ethereum. This significant presence on the XRP Ledger has allowed it to surpass Stellar in total stablecoin supply, achieving a milestone that enhances the competitive landscape of stablecoins.
RLUSD operates under a charter from the New York Department of Financial Services and is fully backed 1:1 by US dollar deposits and cash equivalents. Ripple is also considering additional federal oversight in light of upcoming regulations, which may impose stricter requirements on stablecoin issuers. The token is primarily designed for payments and liquidity management, focusing on treasury operations and cross-border settlements rather than retail trading.
