X Adds Trading Option to Cashtags With Coinbase, Kraken and…

X has added a “Trade” option to its Cashtags feature, allowing U.S. users to move directly from conversations about stocks and cryptocurrencies on the social platform to participating brokerage and exchange platforms.The company launched its U.S. Cashtag Partner Program on September 15 with five initial partners: Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Coinbase, Kraken and Gemini. The integration covers traditional securities as well as digital assets, extending X’s push to turn financial discussions on its platform into a more complete market-discovery experience.When users select a supported Cashtag, such as $AAPL or $BTC, X displays an asset page containing price charts, market information and related posts. The new Trade button then lets the user select a participating provider before being redirected to that company’s app or website.Existing customers can sign into their brokerage account, while new customers can register before placing an order.Crucially, X is not becoming the executing broker. Transactions, custody, customer onboarding and associated regulatory requirements remain with the participating financial platforms.

From Financial Conversation to Execution

The rollout builds on Smart Cashtags, which X introduced for iPhone users in the United States and Canada in April before expanding the functionality more broadly.Those Cashtags transformed ticker symbols into interactive financial pages rather than simple search links. Users could inspect live market information and conversations surrounding individual stocks and cryptocurrencies, but initially could not initiate a transaction from the page.The new program closes that gap. Interactive Brokers confirmed that users can select it from X's embedded Trade button to conduct further research or place a transaction. The brokerage is also offering eligible new U.S. clients $100 when they open and fund a qualifying account through the Cashtags experience.Crypto users can instead select Coinbase, Kraken or Gemini. Kraken said its integration extends beyond Bitcoin and Ether, providing access to more than 2,400 tokens through its platform, including assets on Solana and Robinhood Chain.X has not disclosed the commercial arrangements with participating brokers or whether it receives referral payments when users open accounts or trade.

X Pushes Deeper Into Financial Services

Cashtags have long been central to financial discussion on the platform formerly known as Twitter, particularly among cryptocurrency traders, where symbols such as $BTC, $ETH, $SOL and $XRP are routinely used to organize conversations around specific assets.The addition of brokerage links potentially turns that audience into a significant distribution channel for trading platforms.Former X product head Nikita Bier had repeatedly previewed trading functionality during 2026. In August, after moving into an advisory role, Bier said trade buttons were coming to Cashtags, including cryptocurrency charts.The completed rollout stops short of fully integrated in-app trading because users still leave X's execution environment and transact through regulated third parties. That distinction allows X to provide the discovery and referral layer without itself taking custody of assets or directly processing securities and cryptocurrency orders.Nevertheless, reducing the distance between a viral financial discussion and an executable trade could have broader implications for retail markets. Social media already plays an important role in rapid price movements around cryptocurrencies, meme stocks and other speculative assets.With the Trade button now live, X is moving from simply hosting those conversations toward directly connecting them with the financial infrastructure through which users can act on them.
