Anthropic's Computing Investments Could Reach $517 Billion Over Next Decade

Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company, has committed to significant investments in cloud computing, chip technology, and data centers, with projected costs potentially reaching $517 billion over the next decade. This figure marks a substantial increase from the company's previous estimate of $180 billion for server leasing by 2029, reflecting a broader scope of spending and a longer timeline.

Since October, Anthropic has secured agreements for at least 14.8 gigawatts of computing capacity, in addition to the 1 to 2 gigawatts previously acquired. Major cloud service providers Amazon and Google are responsible for 11 gigawatts of this capacity, with estimated costs exceeding $300 billion over a ten-year period. Other partners involved in these agreements include Microsoft, SpaceX, Lambda, and Nscale.

Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, emphasized the importance of pacing advancements in artificial intelligence, as the growing demand for the company's products, including Claude Code and Cowork, drives the need for increased computing power.
