Coinbase CEO Comments on Regulatory Developments Following CLARITY Act Stalemate

Brian Armstrong, co-founder and CEO of Coinbase, expressed disappointment over the recent failure of the CLARITY Act to advance in the U.S. Senate. Despite this setback, he noted that bipartisan discussions may continue and that the bill could see follow-up efforts in the future. Armstrong emphasized that the cryptocurrency industry cannot afford to wait for Congress to act, suggesting that regulatory clarity is essential for the sector's growth.

Armstrong pointed out that both the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) already possess the necessary tools to create clear regulations within their existing frameworks. He is optimistic that these agencies will take significant steps forward in establishing rules for the cryptocurrency market, which he believes are inevitable.

In his remarks, Armstrong highlighted that the current legal framework for stablecoins, referred to as GENIUS, offers more lenient rewards compared to previous proposals. He acknowledged that the CLARITY Act included some concessions that were challenging to accept, but he suggested that this outcome might ultimately be beneficial for the industry. He concluded by stating that once cryptocurrency has been created, it cannot be undone, and as regulators develop clearer guidelines, the financial system will continue to evolve.
