Apollo Global Management Confirms Data Breach Amid Rising Cyber Threats

Apollo Global Management has confirmed a data breach resulting from a social engineering attack that occurred between July 6 and 10. The breach potentially exposed sensitive personal information of individuals, including names, dates of birth, contact details, home addresses, and Social Security numbers. The firm has begun notifying those affected, adhering to US data-breach notification laws.

This incident comes at a time when the financial sector is facing increased cyber threats. A report from Google Threat Intelligence highlighted a coordinated vishing campaign targeting major financial firms, including Apollo, Blackstone, KKR, Bain Capital, and Bridgewater Associates. The attackers, identified as the group UNC6671, aimed to extract data for extortion purposes.

Apollo, which manages hundreds of billions of dollars in assets and is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker APO, is now facing potential legal challenges. Class-action attorneys have initiated investigations into whether the firm adequately protected the personal data it held, as breaches involving Social Security numbers often lead to significant legal repercussions.
